While I can not tell from the footage if indeed Astana was soft pedaling it is none the less a very plausible scenario that Astana slowed the pace down to keep their number one racer in the group- Lance even in his last years before his retirement always said he had a hard time with the hard accelerations (Iban Mayo was one example he used awhile back) so one could assume he likes them even less now as an "older" racer. Nice work. Great post- right on the money. Commentators today reminded me of how in '99 he hadn't won an important race since riding for Rabobank and was told somewhere around tour-time that he wasn't gonna get a new contract. And suddenly on Champs-Elysees.... But did Wiggins actually say that about winning the Champions League??!? His Wigan/Man UTD remark showed he doesn't know much about football, this would should he doesn't know anything about cycling either.
