How The Race Was Won – Paris-Roubaix 2013

Posted on 8 April 20134 July 2021 by cosmo

A surprisingly cagey effort from a certain overwhelming favorite, better known for watts than wiles. Startlingly good weather for a race and a year notable for nastiness. Omega-Pharma stacks the front with riders and comes away with…ok, I guess that’s par for the course this year. Did I mention it was the fastest Roubaix in the modern era?

the talkback to demol at 38km was probably just to clarify which sectors were left and whom to watch for a response – a kind of if/then, if/then decision tree that they had discussed prior to the race. it is my sincere guess that fabian’s chief concern was opqs numbers, and when he saw two go down he probably just laughed at his luck

as for the push into the traffic island at 4k to go, well-spotted – imagine if seb’s fatigue had led him to go offredo – and he splattered all over manhattan – no doubt the measured effect the winner was looking for

Fantastic job on the music, man! Interestingly, I was just thinking yesterday that NBCSports should recreate those 80s documentaries for later rebroadcast, but was wondering what style of music they could use that would convey a similar totally epic sentiment. Kudos for writing the tunes yourself, instead of throwing some canned 80s tune! Well done sir.

    Awesome job Cosmo. Love it.

Not sure if it was my audio set up (admittedly it’s just crappy laptop speakers), but the music drowned out your voice a bit…

Although, I don’t have the same urge to travel to Azerbaijan, apply to Aspire academy or buy Salice products that I usually do when I watch the races live.

notice that SVM didn’t have a front brake, so he couldn’t really perform his track sprint positioning to the full.
