The Week in Bike #26 – 27 June 2014

Posted on 27 June 2014 by cosmo

Top 5, snubs, Froome TUE case mismanagement, https://www.kirkleebicycles.com/, women, Women’s Tour…and, Giro Rosa, broken pages, Giro del Trentino, broken reporting, Inga Thompson, USAC, war stories, impending doping stories, I hate the Tour de France (a little).

Wonderful as always Cosmo, but exceptional top fives. pertinent pointed gags are the best and you execute them with ease.

the story on Inga merits something important from you. It is a horrid tale of being exploited, used, destroyed, thrown away. It shows the pervasive exploitation of clean riders by the very people still in charge. C’mon lets hear something serious from you regarding this.

The Inga Thompson piece was as infuriating to read as it was predictable. I think I’ve been pretty direct in expressing that I think USA Cycling is a disaster. To recap: Lance Armstrong happened, and the official statement from the organization is that it’s no one’s fault.

The problem (as my little birds tell me) is that the USA Cycling Development Foundation is Thom Wiesel’s personal plaything, accountable to no one, and in control of the USAC board. I hate having to buy a USAC license each year just to experience the simple pleasure of racing bikes, and wait in hope for the day when local officials and race organizers revolt so that those who feed the dysfunctional bloat in Colorado Springs at least have the ability to direct its haphazard flailing in one direction or another.

I was slightly hopeful to see Bob Stapleton get elected chairman last week. He’s always struck me as a straight-shooter who’s entirely comfortable taking a short-term hit for long-term gain.
