Short Post On Dauphine TT

Posted on 13 June 2007 by cosmo

Man, how about Astana in those TTs, yeah? 1-2 in arguably the biggest two time trials of the season. I wonder if Dave Zabriskie, the poor little 3rd place finisher in both instances, is remembering that Astana used to be the Liberty Seguros squad at the heart of the whole Operation Puerto thing when it broke open last year? Or that if he’s noticed that they’re run by the same Walter Godefroot who oversaw Bjarne Riis, Erik Zabel and Jan Ullrich during the dope-happy 90’s at Team Telekom? Ah well. Maybe he’d be better off noticing that admitted/reformed doper David Millar finished well back. Think he might be saving it all for July?

However bumming/encouraging today’s results might be, let’s keep in mind the matter of tomorrow’s stage. Ventoux is nothing to scoff at, and as Floyd proved last year, there’s plenty of time to be lost if your heart’s not in it. I’d look for the short-timers (that’d be the Dauphine hopefuls) to come to the fore, while the real contenders (for the Tour de France) sit back. But then again, you never know.

I guess as Landis-roommate, Zabriskie might know better than others if Astana is dirty…
