The Belgian fans were blasting this when Boonen suddenly found himself alone with 24k to go. It doesn’t really get interesting until 1:50 in, but apparently this song was all the rage in the peloton back in 2006. In fact, I’d even have a video to show you if Velonews had bothered to archive their old crap. Alas.
Anyway, right-click here to download an MP3 for your listening pleasure.
Working on the video for today’s exciting Roubaix. Should be up sometime this evening.
Just FYI:

This is where the song came from. It’s from the live commentator of the flemish TV who was flipping out because Boonen won. We (flemish people) kept laughing over that for months, which is why a song was made.
Rough translation:
“Tom Boonen has to escape, he can’t let himself get closed in. Tom Boonen is coming out, Tom boonen is taking over. Tom Boonen is going over Valverde. Tommeke tommeke tommeke, what are you doing?! Tom boonen is going to become world champion! Tom boonen is going to become world champion! Tom Boonen on first, tom boonen on first! Tom boonen is the world champion!”
I guessed it was commentary from the Madrid Road Championships (I was there!), but I’d never seen the Flemmish video coverage before.
Thanks also for the translation. I got the “wereldkampioen” part, but it’s awesome to know the rest of it, too.
Nice bicycle race song, i think i will use it on my articles also.
