A new course for the race formerly known as Tour of Lombardy this year, and I think it works pretty well—beating up the riders just as TV coverage kicks on before a furious final four kilometers up, over, and into Bergamo. Warmer temps saw cramps play a role this time around, but it’s pretty hard to complain about how it all wrapped up.

Great closing music. Hard to believe how badly Martin torched riders of that skill and experience. It’s like they all had no idea he was there.
Cosmo, I love to watch your “how the race was won” series! I do think, however, on this occasion you missed a rather blatant opportunity to rip on Valverde. The race was obviously his to lose and yet if you watch the last 5k he didn’t close the gap a single time. The best part was the post race interview where Valverde claimed that “everyone was looking to him when Martin jumped” yet when you watch the video everyone was just watching in awe as he rode away except Valverde whos head was repeatedly looking around at everyone else.
