How The Week Was Won – 2016 Tour de France Video Preview

Posted on 27 June 20164 July 2021 by cosmo

What’s that? Time for a video about the 2016 Tour? Sure, why not. Just let me get the bucket…

Though obviously there’ll be more detail and discussion in the forthcoming TdF Recon Ride podcasts, here’s a quick video synopsis of this year’s Tour and storylines, plus a couple of things that might be interesting to watch over the coming three weeks. Thanks to Scott and CyclingTips, expect a few more updates as the tour unfolds.

And obviously, yes—you can buy that t-shirt.

I’ll be interested to see how well Richie Porte and Tejay Van Garderen work together. This might be a rare example of both riders needing to assist each other for mutual gain as by themselves they will not be able to beat Froome, Quintana and Contador.

I also note that nobody has commented on the changes to the KOM competition this year where the second last mountain on Mountain Stages if it is Cat 1 or HC will also qualify for double points. Hopefully this change will allow a few riders to chase the KOM jersey rather than it going to a GC rider as has happened since 2011.

I had no idea about those changes to the KOTM. That is a major difference indeed. For that reason I could see it going to a second tier rider.
