How The Race Was Won – Giro d’Italia 2017 – Stages 16-21

Posted on 29 May 20174 July 2021 by cosmo

Phew—what a solid little last week to a pretty fantastic Grand Tour. Isolation, teamwork, poop, loss-limiting, just a touch of a panache, and a wonderfully tight GC battle all the way down to the last rider off on the last day’s TT. Enjoy it, folks—the good ones don’t come around that often.

HTRWW videos for the rest of the 2017 Giro can be found here: Stages 1-4, Stages 5-9, and Stages 10-15.

    Hi Cosmo,

Enjoy your “how the race was won” commentary.
You should be on t.v/ eurosport.

Just one bone about this episode.
No commentary on the split peloton on the early descent on stage 19 involving Dumoulin??

That was where the race was lost! Mr Quintana, Nibali and Pinot.

    Cheers

        Turn it up.
I gave Cosmo a complement followed by my opinion.

Did you watch the early part of the stage in full?

Was it not an excellent opportunity for the “favourites” to put time on Dumoulin?

Dumoulin was gapped by over 1min at 1 point.

This last video doesn’t play for me. I can watch the other ones but the one for 16-21 doesn’t work.

huh—I had hoped I’d cleared that up. It looks like you’re in the US, where it’s currently working for me. Can you tell me anything about your browser/what device you’re using?

FWIW, I was having the same problem (USA, Chrome on a laptop running windows 10), but when I disabled my adblock plus & uBlock it ran fine.

The script that tries to figure out which video to serve uses a third-party ajax request—uBlock could see that as a no-no, but the call is to freegeoip.net, which is open source and really ought to be on their whitelist.

Anyway, I think I can implement it at a cyclocosm.com URL, which should address that…though I would like to keep it on the front-end.

Thanks. Confirmed that it is uBlock’s reaction to the call to freegeoip.net
