How The Race Was Won – UCI World Championships Men’s Road Race 2017

Posted on 26 September 20174 July 2021 by cosmo

An unprecedented result, active racing, and an entertaining technical glitch all made for a unique and pretty enjoyable battle out on the roads of Bergen. Thanks to CyclingTips for helping to make this weekend’s HTRWW’s come together at the last second.

Ever do old races? Like 1989, maybe best ever RR sequence on film.

I have thought about it a few times, mostly when I was wondering if I could do this full-time and thinking of things to do in the off-season. There are a lot of old races even from my own personal watching I’d love to dig up, but even some of the early-Lance era stuff is hard to come by in a reasonably complete incarnation. Earlier than that gets really iffy, really fast. Even in the 40min ESPN of the 1989 race on YouTube, that electric final lap is diced up by commercial brakes and b-roll of the press room. But maybe there’s something better out there…

Your commentary is the best concise report out there. Keep them coming Cosmo! Love it. You always have a clip or three I never see on other coverage outlets.
