Rainy, crappy weather. Makes it hard the day before the race’s first mountaintop finish, at least from a literary prospective.
And, of course, from the prospective of the 100 or so riders who either crashed, got crashed, or got stuck behind a crash coming into the line today. A mere 43 riders finishing on ST? On an “easy” sprint stage? This Tour is awesome.
And if you’re the sort who simply needs GC action for a stage to be good, play back the last kilometer, take a peek over the shoulders of those lead riders, and you’ll see plenty of familiar faces, battling to keep out of trouble, hold a wheel, or take advantage of a crash. It’s important to realize that no GC change doesn’t mean no GC action.
My heart goes out to David Millar, who made the tough moves all day. Still, at only 1:07 down, he had to know the odds of his getting away were long. I liked one of the aforementioned GC riders to make a move today, but it was Daniel Friebe who came up gold in the end, calling the stage for the Classics sprinters almost nailing the trifecta.
Love the “how the race was won” videos. Great mix of wit and clarity.
This year is putting me through the wringer, in an awesome way. Normally the first week is just sort of warm-up to my becoming completely obsessed, but I feel like it’s just been incredible from the get-go this year. Do in no small part to the dreamboat known as Fabian Cancellara.
I don’t get versus on tv, so I’m stuck with reading the Boulder Report live blog of the stage at work and then watching their interview heavy clip coverage online. Reading it after the fact today, I was practically yelling at the entries on the webpage for Millar. The fact that I can’t watch tomorrow’s stage in its entirety is killing me.
Cosmo,
I just discovered your page a few days ago and I like the way you analyse and comment the race. I just wish your recents posts were longer and more detailed.
And as conifer said, your videos are impressing. Keep it up.
Millar was amazing but he had to know with the storm brewing behind him the catch was going to be made I admire the way he pulled away from the peleton though that was just awesome. The god of thunder was my pick for the stage and I also reckon he will take green this year over Cav just putting it out there. Also just a mention for Amets Txurruka He rode well to catch the three man breakaway
Conifer, you have options, many free options;-)

To Cosmo:
It is just a question of time before Versus buys your HTRWW concept and kills it after. You make them look like rich children.
Seriously now: how much production time for each HTRWW segment?

Hi Roberto, glad you like the site. Sorry about the comment depth—I try to make things as long as I can, but I’m not exactly swimming in free time.
And Luc, it takes about a 5-6 hours from the moment I start importing footage/writing the script until the video finally uploads. A good deal of that is waiting for my aging computer to process really big video files, but I just ordered a new laptop, so hopefully I can get through things a little more quickly in the future.
