Oscar Freire Gets Shot All The Time

Posted on 17 July 20097 August 2018 by cosmo

Oscar Freire, along with Julian Dean, got shot with an air rifle during today’s stage. In this interview (mostly in English) the three-time world champ clarifies that, while nothing new for him, this sort of thing is “not nice”. via @nttawwt, who suspects Alsatian Separatists.

Old-School Andorra

Stage 7 is in progress. The break, which contains many solid climbers, is way up, and after an aggressively ridden first week, the pack has thus far shown limited interest in chasing. Certainly makes for a sharp contrast to the 1997 edition, where some suspiciously fresh riders powered away from the field. In It’s Not…

2009 Tour de France – Stage 2 – How The Race Was Won

Posted on 6 July 20094 July 2021 by cosmo

Stage 2 of the 2009 Tour de France—in useful video analysis form! Some early-race crashes and good racing over the final kilometers. Watch the picture-perfect leadout by Columbia-Highroad HTC and hope they aren’t this effective for the next three weeks. I had a fairly clear schedule yesterday, so I figured I’d put another one of…

How The Race Was Won – 2009 Giro d'Italia Stages 3-6

Posted on 26 May 20094 July 2021 by cosmo

Ah, only two weeks and 10 stages behind schedule, we have the exciting second installment of the How the Race Was Won Giro coverage. An exciting sprint, some hill stages, crashes, Lance getting dropped (repeatedly) some nonsense tactics, and a long breakaway. Makes a good rest day retrospective, I suppose. EBH Unleashing the Dragon

Edvald Boasson Hagen is rapidly turning into one of the best riders of his generation, and I’ve gotta say, I love watching him win. Today’s Giro stage was a quality addition to his palmares, especially given the conditions and the presence of Robbie Hunter, one of the better sprinters in the pro peloton, in the…

The Cancellara Philosophy

Posted on 12 May 2009 by cosmo

(video after the jump) Today’s mountaintop finish featured 16 riders on the same time as the winner, and 27 within 10 seconds. Either the course wasn’t hard enough—which I doubt, since Lance called it a “big climb”—or people were riding with all the panache of a frightened eight-year-old. More riders need to be like Cance….

How The Race Was Won – Giro d'Italia 2009 – Part 1

Posted on 11 May 20094 July 2021 by cosmo

Only two stages in, and already the ’09 Giro is looking like it’s going to be awesome. Mark Cavendish and Lance Armstrong take aim at Garmin-Slipstream in more ways than one before the 1st stage TTT, while Stage 2 features some classic Giro riding, complete with a crazy finishing circuit and a big sprint at…

Evans' and Gilbert's Epic Romandie Descent

Posted on 7 May 20095 July 2021 by cosmo

From Stage 2 of last week’s Tour of Romandie. Even if you’ve got the watts to jump away from a ProTour-level field on a Category 2 climb, to be a serious contender, you still need the skill, coordination and nerve to come screaming down swtichbacking, off-camber descents while negotiating the occasional pothole or motorbike. And…

How The Race Was Won – Tour of Romandie 2009

Posted on 4 May 20094 July 2021 by cosmo

Video recap of the 2009 Tour of Romanide. A great win by Roman Kreuziger, making him a popular dark horse pick for a Grand Tour or two later this season. Two stage wins by Oscar Freire, a team time trial, some snow, and just a little argy-bargy. [Right-click for iTunes compatible download] Vimeo and YouTube…
